Design Management, Construction Management

Normal operation of a wafer fab is complicated – ultra-clean environments, exotic utility systems, and demanding production schedules. Now imagine shuffling the entire cleanroom layout to allow for a pilot production line installation. Furthermore, the new manufacturing equipment for the pilot line was larger and consumed more utilities requiring the associated building systems to be upgraded as well. This is exactly the task set to The CPI Group for the 8” CMOS-7 Pilot Line project.

CPI served as both the design manager, directly hiring the engineering firms, and as the construction manager for the effort. An ever-changing production schedule required that our team adapt quickly to frequent changes including altering design priorities and resequencing construction work to avoid impact on production. Additionally there were numerous shutdowns required for the utility system upgrades. Integrated was able to consolidate those requests into a single, weekend-long effort over the holiday break. At the end of the project, the pilot line was production-qualified on time and our team was credited with minimizing disruptions to HP’s existing operation.
