A Bit About Me
Karl Kilgore is a Founding Principal and Director of Medical Planning Consulting for The CPI Group, a Denver-based company that provides comprehensive program and project management services for healthcare and advanced technologies facilities facing complex renovation, growth or new build projects.
Karl has over 40 years of experience focused exclusively within the healthcare industry. He has extensive experience as a healthcare architect, space utilization efficiency and workflow design consulting, and in project management working as the owner’s representative. He leads CPI’s healthcare team in developing project feasibility studies, space programming, master facility planning, functional planning, equipment planning, and overall project development. He is certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), is licensed in Arizona, California, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Texas. He holds EDAC, LEED AP, and NCIDQ certifications.
Prior to joining The CPI Group, Karl first worked in Houston with CRS Architects, then in Arizona and California with ADP Architects. He has worked with various healthcare agencies throughout his career including Health Dimensions, Intermountain Health Care, Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, Kaiser Permanente, CA, Sanford Health, Catholic Health Initiatives, Veterans Affairs, Palomar/Pomerado District Hospitals, and Catholic Health West. He has also provided project management for the FEMA funded Community Hospital Replacement Facility in Watsonville, California.
Karl led the full program development of the McKenzie County Replacement Hospital, Clinics, LTC and Memory Care facility in Watford City, ND 2012 - 2020. This 165,000 SF four (4) phase Critical Access facility received the largest loan ever authorized by USDA, at that time.
Karl also produced the detailed Room by Room Space Program for the complete replacement of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Denver totaling nearly 1.5 million gross square feet. He is also consulted on the updated VA design guide templates for ambulatory services.
He provided the programming and master planning concepts for the Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI)/Durango Regional Medical Center. The 255,000 square foot replacement facility and new campus development program catapulted Mercy-Durango from a local community hospital to the largest southwest regional medical facility in the state of Colorado with coverage extending into New Mexico and Arizona.
Some of the other master plans developed by Karl include St. Alexius Medical Center is Bismarck, ND; Merle West Medical Center in Klamath Falls, OR; CHI/St. John Regional Medical Center in Joplin, MO; Hegg Faith Regional Medical Center, Norfolk, NE; and CHI/Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.
He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, American Society for Healthcare Engineering, Colorado Association of Healthcare Engineers and Directors, and EDAC. Karl attended the University of Houston where he earned a Professional Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and graduated with honors.
Karl is a native of Houston, Texas, and currently lives in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, with his wife Linda and their two children.
